Swanage Household Recycling Centre

Client: Dorset County Council

Location: Swanage, Dorset

Awards: High commendation RICS award

Dorset County Council (DCC) considers the existing Household Recycling Centre in Swanage to be unsustainable in the long term and Swanage Town Council also has long term plans for the site.  A  replacement facility is therefore  required. The proposed site has been allocated within the Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole Waste Local Plan, 2006. The proposed facility would be bigger, more efficient and accessible to all members of the public.

We were employed by DCC to coordinate the Environmental Impact Assessment, including the production of an Environmental Statement. We also undertook the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, the Ecological Impact Assessment, prepared the Planning Statement and produced the Design and Access Statement. We also organised and attended a Public Information Day to inform the public of the proposals.

We are part of the team, together with Dorset Engineering Consultancy and Mitchell Taylor Workshop, which is designing the new facility. A planning application was submitted to DCC in December 2009 and consent granted in 2010 . Detailed design work is currently underway.   The replacement facility is expected to achieve an Excellent rating under the CEEQUAL accreditation scheme.
