Thea Rush is a graduate ecologist with a strong academic foundation and hands-on field experience. She graduated in 2021 with a BSc in Conservation and Forestry, equipping her with robust scientific research, ecological surveying, and technical report writing skills. Over the past four years, Thea has worked as a Freelance Assistant Ecologist, confidently developing skills in habitat assessment and protected species surveys, including bats, hazel dormice, great crested newts, reptiles, and badgers, as well as producing clear, concise ecological reports.
Currently undertaking a master’s degree, Thea is expanding her skills in ecological survey design, data analysis, and protected species legislation. Her previous role also provided her with a solid grounding in habitat management, forest ecology, and Biodiversity Net Gain, while further honing her surveying and reporting capabilities.
During her previous role at the Forest of Avon, Thea collaborated with landowners to design and plan new woodland creation and tree planting schemes and has supported South Gloucestershire Council’s tree team with a variety of planting and woodland projects across the county.
As a Freelance Assistant Ecologist, Thea contributed to a wide range of projects across the southwest, including large-scale housing developments, works to Grade I and Grade II listed buildings, and a National Highways scheme.
Since joining Nicholas Pearson Associates in January 2025, Thea has been involved in a diverse portfolio of projects, building her technical and field expertise while working towards obtaining protected species licences.
