The University of Essex has been given a 2017 Green Flag Award, recognising its commitment to managing the historic parkland of its Colchester Campus.
A Green Flag Award scheme judge who visited Wivenhoe Park said it is “one of the best sites I have seen for environmental practices.”
The judges’ report praised the University’s investment in “equipment and infrastructure to enable this site to be maintained at a very high standard” as well as University staff who are “fully engaged in their role, and understand the benefits of their work.”
The judges commented that the “health and wellbeing that the natural environment brings to students is evident and priceless,” and that “it must be at the top of any university landscapes.”
Nicholas Pearson Associates are retained by the University of Essex to provide advice on matters relating to the landscapes of the campus. We recently prepared an External Estate Management Plan for the University that was assessed as part of the Green Flag judging process.
