Bath Rugby’s proposal for a new Stadium for Bath at The Recreation Ground has been approved by Bath and North East Somerset Council.
A Landmark Development for Bath
The approved plans feature a state-of-the-art stadium designed to accommodate 18,000 spectators, supporting a wide range of sporting, leisure, and cultural events. The project also includes:
- Enhancements to the riverside setting
- Improved accessibility for visitors
- Sensitive integration within Bath’s historic urban landscape
A Sensitive Response to a Historic Setting
Located in the heart of Bath, adjacent to the River Avon, the site lies within the World Heritage Site and Bath Conservation Area. It is visible from key viewpoints across the city, including elevated positions within the Cotswold National Landscape.
The design underwent multiple iterations to ensure a contextually sensitive approach, supported by extensive public and statutory consultations. Notably, there were no objections from Statutory Consultees.

Expert Landscape and Visual Assessment
Nicholas Pearson Associates has played a key role in the project since its inception, providing strategic advice on landscape, townscape, and visual matters. The firm prepared the:
- Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA)
- Verified View Montages (VVM)
These formed part of the Environmental Statement submitted with the planning application and were instrumental in the decision-making process.
