Mindenhurst: The redevelopment of Princess Royal Barracks

Nicholas Pearson Associates provided landscape and ecological services to Skanska IS for the re-development of the Princess Royal Barracks for 1200 new homes, known as Mindenhurst. An outline planning permission required modifications supported by Design Codes. We supported the master planner in these tasks.

The site lies close to the Thames Basin Heaths SPA which has required sensitive and specific landscape and ecological considerations and design measures to be incorporated into the scheme proposals.

We undertook the landscape and ecological design of the initial infrastructure for Reserved Matters planning application, detailed design and contract packages. We also undertook site wide ecological surveys and have provided ongoing client support. Wildfire prevention measures were also woven into the woodland management.

Construction is underway for the Village Green, Suitable Area of Natural Greenspace (SANG) and Spine Road. The planning and design proposals are strongly led by the local heathland and woodland character and include, play areas, a lake, footpaths and cycle routes. These are due for completion in the summer.
