Australia-based Wolf Minerals has begun extraction work at the newly opened Hemerdon tungsten mine in Devon, UK.
Mining was carried out there between 1919 and 1920 and again from 1934 to 1944, when production ceased. Planning permission for the reopening of the mine was obtained in 1986 but full operation of the mine has not been implemented until now, when the expanding economies of China and India have increased worldwide demand.
Nicholas Pearson Associates has been involved in considering the landscape and visual impacts resulting from changes in operational technology and proposed plant, preparing the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment as part of an Environmental Statement prepared in support of a planning application. We also prepared numerous photomontages or Visually Verified Montages, to demonstrate the effect of the proposals.
