Jane is a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute and a qualified urban designer. She has experience of a range of public realm, strategic masterplanning, urban design and landscape projects, in both urban and rural contexts.

Working to meet client requirements, balanced with design and environmental needs, Jane has been Project Landscape Architect through all of the LI / RIBA project stages from feasibility/initial site assessment to final completion and operation.

Community and stakeholder workshops have been an important part of this process.  Creatively approaching new areas of work beyond core landscape practice, she has good design and communication skills and has presented to planning committees and Design Review Panels.

Jane is a member of the South West Design Review Panel, commenting on architecture (massing), urban design and landscape on urban and rural projects of various scales in Plymouth, the South Hams, Exeter and Taunton.

 Project Experience

Jane acted as Project Urban Designer for the Gainsborough Northern Strategic Urban Extension (SUE). She was responsible for the design coordination of the Masterplan and Design and Access Statement (DAS) with input from planning consultants, highways and drainage engineers, ecologists and historic environment specialists. The output included the SUE framework for 2,500 homes with planning submission, coordinated by the planning consultants, for 750 homes, seeking outline permission for 130 homes. Green Infrastructure (GI) and Sustainable Urban Drainage (SUDs) and a movement strategy were included in the design. She also worked on the Maple Farm Urban Extension, Collingtree, Northamptonshire. Jane was involved in the Masterplanning for 2,000 homes, in a site with floodplain considerations.

Jane has prepared Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA) as part of Environmental Statements for various projects, ranging from residential, energy, quarrying and flood defence schemes. She has attended design team meetings with the client, public exhibitions and been involved in presentations to Planning Committees and Design Review Panels. She has worked with our Visualisations team to produce photomontages to illustrate the schemes being assessed.

Jane has provided landscape design services at masterplan scale for a number of projects, including the Palm Cross Residential Development, Modbury. This included green infrastructure and SUDs design, community workshops, LVIA, client liaison and meetings with the local planning authority.

Working at more detailed site level, Jane provides hard and soft landscape design and implementation and maintenance inspections. She has worked on projects at the University of Bristol and Bath Spa University. Jane was project landscape architect for Twerton Mill Student Accommodation, Bath, which won a Civic Trust Regeneration Award. Jane was also involved in the preparation of the Green Flag Management Plan for the University of Essex, Colchester Campus.

Career History

  • Jane started her career in landscape architecture working for Groundwork Plymouth. She then worked for HAD before joining Nicholas Pearson Associates in 2007. Prior to this, she worked on a variety of design projects to include a government funded landscape scheme in Greece and a local government design project in Norway.
  • Jane was the South West Branch Representative on the Landscape Institute Council for 3 years from 2011 to 2014.
