Landscape Character Assessments

Landscape Character Assessments (LCA’s) is a technique which comprises of a study and synthesis of the distinct and recognisable patterns of elements that occur within a defined area of land, and how this is appreciated by people.

“…landscape character is defined as a distinct, recognisable and consistent pattern of elements, be it natural (soil, landform) and/or human (for example settlement and development) in the landscape that makes one landscape different from another, rather than better or worse.”  Natural England.

Such studies are often used to inform strategic planning policies and can guide development proposals and designs. We have undertaken numerous studies at a range of scales and size of site areas and can often form a baseline for further impact assessment work.
