Bath Combined Sewer Overflow Project

Client: Wessex Water

Location: Bath and Saltford

The Bath CSO Project was required in order to reduce significantly the storm water discharges and sewer-related debris entering the River Avon in western Bath from combined sewer overflows. We managed and co-ordinated the Environmental Impact Assessment for Wessex Water's major £28m sewerage improvement project for Bath.

The project included various works in Bath (including repairs to CSOs, the construction of a series of new CSOs, deep storage shafts and kiosks, a microtunnel, and construction compound), additional storage tanks at Saltford sewage treatment works, and a 8km pipeline between Bath and Saltford Sewage Treatment Works. The project involved works within highly sensitive environments, including within the Bath World Heritage City, Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Bath Conservation Area, and works adjacent to a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) , and within the curtilage of listed buildings.

We prepared the Environmental Statement  (ES) to accompany the planning application, and the project was granted planning permission within 16 weeks. We subsequently assisted with the preparation of an Environmental Management Plan for the construction period.
