The Frome Hospital at the Showfields will provide a new community health facility as a replacement of the existing cramped building in the town centre. The hospital provision includes a therapy suite; a minor injuries unit; a radiology unit; a renal unit and outpatient's services.  The hospital will also provide temporary screening facilities.

Nicholas Pearson Associates provided the landscape architectural support to the multidisciplinary team led by David Kent Architects. This included involvement in a number of public consultation events and a presentation to the South West Design Review Panel.

The greenfield site is located adjacent to existing residential forms part of the wider Showfield, with views across the open space. The site layout sought to provide an attractive setting for the new building whilst maintaining views across the Showfield and accommodating sustainable drainage features.

The facility includes the provision of a therapy garden. This has been carefully designed in consultation with the nursing staff to cater to for particular patient needs as well as providing a area for quiet relaxation.

The landscape design provides a well-articulated access and circulation layout with a clearly defined entrance courtyard. Planting proposals were carefully considered to provide appropriate screening adjacent to the existing residential areas as well as a parkland style landscape to blend with the adjacent Showfields. Future maintenance issues were discussed with the PCT and the design and specification has sought to offer an appropriate aesthetic effect within a low maintenance landscape.
